How would they stay attached to the lightsaber? That doesn't make any sense at all. Merely raising it to try to lift them would force it to slice upwards.

Taking time out of the Battle of Endor (or any other battle against the rebel alliance, for that matter) to roast some succulent ewoks over a toasty fire while whistling a little tune also not high on the "makes sense" scale. Just go with it, man.

It's Vader. If he really wants to roast them and make it look like they're skewered on a stick/lightsaber, he could Force hold them and then run the saber through them for appearances.

I can't find the link that explains this, so I'll try from a bit of memory and googling...

It's a performance art piece by Daniel Bozhkov, entitled "Darth Vader Tries to Clean the Black Sea with Brita Filter". It has something to do with the futility of attempts to help the environment by "empires" such as... I guess governments, large corporations, etc?

Because Ali has a copy of the original edits of the trilogy on DVD, our child will not have to grow up on the horrific mutations that have since been foisted on us fans.

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but it's pretty adorable.

I actually got to sing in the Star Wars in Concert concerts in Charleston, SC and Charlotte, NC back in November of 2009 and it was the most amazing experience of my life.

There are two choral numbers in this program, both one is Duel of the Fates and Battle of the Heroes. They're both from the prequel (one is from the big lightsaber duel with Darth Maul in Phantom Menace and the other is from the Obi Wan/Anakin duel over the lava on Mustafar in Revenge of the Sith). This was a total geekfest for me, getting to sing Star Wars music in a concert with lights and fire and giant video screens (there was a huge HD screen behind us and nets of LEDs that made low-res screens on the sides and above the orchestra) AND sing with the London Philharmonic orchestra AND meet Anthony Daniels, AND see all the cool costumes and props they had on display.

The reason that I got to do this wonderful thing is because they were using semi-local choirs for the shows since there are only two relatively short choral pieces in the program, both of which appear on the first half of the show. The assistant choral director at the University of South Carolina at the time had just come from California where he'd worked with the choir for the premiere show in the concert series, so when it came to South Carolina/North Carolina they asked him to line up the choirs for the shows and he used people from the university choirs.

Anyway, yeah, so it was exciting and I got to do it two nights in a row. Anthony Daniels came to the green room to meet us the first night and when he asked if anyone hadn't seen Star Wars one of our group meekly raised her hand and he proceeded to personally tell her the story of the Star Wars saga.

Oh yeah, also this was a paid gig and the university provided transportation for us!

The Charlotte show was the best of the two, the arena was bigger (the first night, in Charleston, they kept having trouble during tech with the circuits overloading and the breakers tripping because the place was so small and underpowered) and also a gaming con going on that weekend in the same area, so there were a lot of dedicated fans at the show.

Anyway, that is my story! :) Still excites me even though it's been almost two years now.


Oh yeah, and I now own a shirt with Boba Fett's face made of music notes and a mug with Darth Vader's helmet made of orchestra instruments. :)

I miss the alternate universe where Lucas tragically died moments after releasing Return of the Jedi.

Oh, now I need to invent a Sliders-esque wormhole device. I'll make that universe my goal, rather than the one with the squeaky gate.

*derailing the thread* I had a dream a few days ago that was along these lines. Everything else was exactly the same, but the Talking Heads never broke up and had been releasing new albums. It was awesome.

I feel bad for people like my nephew who love Star Wars, but will never live in a world where Han shot first, or Jabba wasn't in Mos Eisley, or Jar Jar Binks didn't exist.

And yet, I have them. On DVD. A bunch of years back they were included as "extras" on a limited edition set of the original trilogy, and I bought all three. My baby will grow up on real Star Wars. *gloats*

unfortunately the version you have on those DVDs is the laserdisc transfer, and not the remastered version that was used as source material for the special edition. The quality just isn't quite as good as the remastered version.

Yeah, I know. But it's the best I know of so far! (I missed the "remastered" in Platypi's post, oops!) I grew up on the remastered trilogy, so it won't be quite the same, alas.

My parents are non-Star Wars people. In fact, this is a story from when Paul and I were first married...

My parents decided to buy us a TV, so we went to the store and showing on EVERY. SINGLE. SCREEN. was Empire Strikes Back. I think they had just released the original trilogy on DVD or something. I say to Paul "Watch this... Hey! Mom, who is that on the screen?" She glances up and says "I don't know . One of your space guys?" It was Darth Vader.
Paul's jaw hit the floor. It's one thing never to have seen Star Wars, but to not even recognize Darth Vader...
