Thumbs Up: New license has been acquired.
Thumbs Up: Since I haven't updated the picture in 11 years (and we're required to do so every 12), they were going to make me come in soon anyway...assuming I was here when the time ran out.
Thumbs Up: My picture didn't come out terribly. I would actually show it to people.
Thumbs Up: I also got to update my weight, which is still at least 20lbs less than it was when I first got my license.
Thumbs Up: It only took an hour.
Thumbs Down: I have a DL floating loose somewhere in the world and that bothers me to no end. Even if it's lost somewhere in this house, me not knowing exactly where it is unnerves me.
Thumbs Down: I go into my wallet so rarely that it might have been missing for up to a month. The last I remember seeing it was when I slipped it into my pocket in Phoenix in late August. I thought I put it back in my wallet, though, since I'm typically so damn good about these sorts of things.
Thumbs Up: Thank god I went to the bank today and they asked for it. If I hadn't, I'd be sitting in the airport on Friday morning with absolutely no options whatsoever.

Although you really should have government ID when traveling, Brian says that it's not too hard to verify someone's identity with all of their databases and such. It would take a little time, but you wouldn't be stuck.Thumbs Up: Thank god I went to the bank today and they asked for it. That doesn't seem very realistic, given the circumstances... but then white privilege is wonderful, we actually think the government will work for us rather than suspect one of malfeasance because of how one looks.Although you really should have government ID when traveling, Brian says that it's not too hard to verify someone's identity with all of their databases and such. and especially true in Arizona, where one will soon have to carry papers identifying yourself as a citizen if you're not white (technically whites will have to carry identification too, but one shouldn't actually expect police to ever question the citizenship of a white person, that would be silly).

Re: Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
Adam, I think Brian knows better than you on this topic. Denver has a LARGE hispanic population, so don't act as though he never has to deal with someone non-white. It's an INTERNATIONAL airport, for heaven's sake. More than half of those Brian clears without ID are non-white. (Not necessarily hispanic, but other nationalities as well.)

Yes, in this case, it was not a matter of me not trusting TSA, it was ignorance and thinking that it was mandatory policy to have photo ID. Thanks Steph (and Brian) for letting me know otherwise. :)
As for AZ and race relations, that is a topic unto itself.

I also always assumed it was mandatory policy to have photo ID. Even if they can make an exception, I would think it would make things more difficult and time consuming during your travels. And if you didn't know ahead of time that you had forgotten your ID, then you probably wouldn't have planned ahead for lots of extra time at the airport for the alternative identification process.Yes, in this case, it was not a matter of me not trusting TSA, it was ignorance and thinking that it was mandatory policy to have photo ID.

Re: Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
You definitely SHOULD always try to have your ID, but sometimes life happens and you don't have it, so they have methods around it. Here is a link for information regarding IDs at the airport. Brian says it usually takes an extra 15-20 minutes to clear someone.

That's really good to know, Steph! I'm the type of person who gets to the airport with lots of time to spare but I know people who cut it really close.

+ That was the shortest ER visit I've ever experienced at 1.5 hours.
- I'm still sick with gastroenteritis (stomach bug) going on 5 days.
+ It's not something more serious than that.
- I had to pay $100 to find that out.

As a general rule, I don't worry about things (enough to see anyone) until it's been 10 days because more often than not, whatever it is, the few times I do get sick, goes away within that time.
You going in was probably much wiser, though, so I'm glad you went in, even if it wasn't anything too serious. Better safe than sorry.

Re: Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
The only reason I did was because my primary care doctor told me to go to the ER over the phone. I called just to see if it was normal for the stomach bug to go on this long. Not to mention I had my mom being all hysterical about cantelopes and listeria.

I'm glad it's nothing serious.
The listeria mania makes me really sad for the poor farm who will probably be out of business. It's not like the put listeria on the cantaloupe on purpose.

Re: Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
+ Replaced brake pads with no issue (I hate hate hate hate hate doing brakes, there is always something else that will go wrong and make it take ten times longer than it should.)
- OK, so I lied about new issue: caliper on the right is leaking and will need to be replaced soon... Did I mention that I hate doing brakes, with a passion?
+ Got diagnostic codes from the ECM finally! Took it to Advance and they hooked their reader up to it and got more than the horrible 05050 "no codes" code. Got a knock sensor code, camshaft position sensor, and ignition signal code.
- Still doesn't fix the car, still stalls. But it is a start!
(And if there are any mechanics who want to help me out and might have some insight hit me up with a PM and I'll let you know the details.)

Re: Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
it got worse, nearly stranded me in the middle of two intersections. Gave up on trying to diagnose it myself, got it to a mechanic and my parents let me borrow their old Jeep until I can get it fixed. Some things I can fix, but diagnosing stuff like that on these newer cars is pretty tough.

- my company provided car broke beyond the amount they wanted to pay to fix it.
- they decided they don't want to provide company cars to us lowly employees anymore.
+ they gave me the car as is as a way of being done with company cars.
- as is means $1,600 of repairs. The car is only worth $2,000.
+ we are able to trade the car in for $2,000 as is.
+/- we picked out a car three weeks ago. It was in Virginia at the time.
+ the car is now in Milwaukee and has been for over a week.
- the title for the car isn't in Milwaukee.
- my old car is no longer in a drivable condition.
- we're forced to rent a car until the title arrives.
+ The title should be ready tomorrow.... finally.

- The OBD2/bluetooth interface I bought didn't work
- The distributor cap and rotor I bought weren't the problem with my car
+ I was able to return both of these things.
+ I got a much needed haircut today.
- The garage hasn't gotten to my car yet.
+ Have a vehicle to use in the meantime, thanks to my parents loaning me one of theirs!
+ Got a cabinet that has been waiting at my parents house for me for almost two years thanks to driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee right now
+/- Now I'm having to go through my stuff that has been piled up in closets for 4 years since I have more storage in my outside closet. :D

Sorry I missed it in the other thread; the zoo was very fun although I got a really bad migraine halfway through the day which sucked.

[+] Was told that I may have the option of going back up to full-time hours at work.
[-] I have no desire to be here even one second longer than I already am.
[+] I've done the math, and after taxes and other deductions, I'd be bringing home another $600 per month, which is HUGE and money that we really, really need right now.
[-] Most likely it'll fall through anyway, because management is so freaking stupid here. Why don't they keep their mouths shut until they can actually OFFER me the damn job?!

Re: Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
Thumbs down: Someone stole my laptop at the airport.
Thumbs down: I had a direct deposit slip with my bank account information in the bag.
Thumbs down: I also had an ipod touch with banking, amazon, work emails, etc. on it.
Thumbs up: The bag was recovered, missing only an iphone charger and an umbrella. The laptop was turned on and at the password screen was showing the "hint." I think I only got it back because the thief couldn't use it.
Thumbs down: I spent 5 hours frantically changing the passwords to everything, remote wiping my ipod, trying to put a hold on my bank account, etc. Still need to close that account just to be on the safe side.
Thumbs down: Today's events ended my vomit-free streak. (Not vomit-free since '93, but it had been a while.)
Thumbs up: I'd call it, on the whole, a win.

Step softly; a dream lies buried here.

+ The coniferous nature of my new yard is providing some different species of birds.
- It is also providing red squirrels that are small enough to get into my squirrel proof suet feeder.
