Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
So, Josh, I feel like I owe you an apology. Besides getting to meet Thomas, you're really not getting much out of making the trip up here. A city (that, granted, I think is awesome and worth it but understand is not the case for all) you've been to 3, 4 times and two people you've met 1-2 times already, respectively. I genuinely wish there was something more I could offer you.
I'm sure some sort of video chat would be fine but Friday would probably be best because Thomas is leaving Saturday evening and if Josh stays until Sunday, I'll be giving him the option of joining zero and I, as I get drunk off my arse to avoid the awkwardness of hanging out with a bunch of people I don't know, in attending a party I wasn't going to go to if enough Pwebbers came here or staying at my place while I go.

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
Eight might be cutting it too close once you factor in travel time between your place, the airport and the theater. If it works out, great. If not, other Chicagoland IMAXs have showtimes around 10:30 - 11:00. Either way, I could set out around noonish and pick you up at work, if you want.It appears to be a thing they're doing...so, do we want to go to this one? I'm off work at 5:15 (though get in closer to 6:30 thanks to train schedule...might be able to get around this) and Thomas gets in about 7ish, I want to say. zero should be done by 6, 6:30 at the latest. Hodgkins is maybe a 15 minute drive. We can buy tickets ahead of time to make sure we get in. What do you gents say?According to Fandango, it looks like the IMAX in Hodgkins has a 8pm showing on the 31st.

I get to see you, doofus, and your new place. I get to see the movie of a book with you and a few other people I would've never gotten a chance to know otherwise. It's more than enough. So, Josh, I feel like I owe you an apology. Besides getting to meet Thomas, you're really not getting much out of making the trip up here. So, did mexers have to cancel, I guess? Also, will Jeffy be joining us in the flesh or via skype?

Mich is Skype, I'm assuming.
I haven't heard a thing from megxers since...whenever it was I said she was penciling us into her calendar and much as I want to go poking to get an answer, I feel like people don't want me pestering them.
But yay, I'm glad this isn't a wasted trip for you.

You should definitely pester as much as possible!
I'm getting in at 6:40, theoretically, but I'm skeptical of planes arriving in a timely fashion, so the 10:30 / 11 options might be safer? Also, Skype party sounds fun.

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
I haven't heard back yet from my potential new job, either for a yea or a nay, so I'm super-not-sure about just going out of state right now! They want to set up another meeting, apparently to discuss "my future at the company", but they're being really weird about contacting me back and it's basically making me extremely anxious. It's really lame, guys, I know, but money, as always, is not the loosest, and I don't want to screw it up. I really want to go to Chicago, and see all of you, and finally put this movie to bed with you guys.

I read this as "finally put the moves in bed with you guys."
------------------
Just my two cents. I would, of course, love to have you but, from a poor person to a professionally stressed person, money stress is not fun and if trying to come here causes even a little anxiety, there's a really easy way to get rid of that portion of it. Which won't help with them being buttheads but what can you do about that?

As someone who flies through Chicago at least once a month: getting into O'Hare on time isn't usually the problem. It's getting out.I'm getting in at 6:40, theoretically, but I'm skeptical of planes arriving in a timely fashion, so the 10:30 / 11 options might be safer? Also, Skype party sounds fun.
But I have no idea what your home airport is like as far as being on-time, either. So it's probably better to be safe than sorry.
ETA: You should totally check out Uber while you're there. Cheaper and nicer than the typical taxi.

Also, I'm driving so a taxi or rental would be a little redundant unless there's more than five of us.

It occurs to me that we should probably do a cell-phone # swap or something like that rather shortly, especially if we're doing something more elaborate than me just taxiing to GD's place and going from there.

Are we anticipating having to buy tickets in advance? I've seen a couple predictions for a small opening weekend.

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
I've been suggesting my group to get them, but that's mostly just because... why not? It would be embarrassing for all of us to get together and then one (or more) can't get in. It costs, what, a dollar extra? Two?Are we anticipating having to buy tickets in advance? I've seen a couple predictions for a small opening weekend.
Anyway, I have eight people coming! My own faux-PwebCon.
I believe this time would work for me! I should be available. I have a guest who decided to come this weekend, though (of course), so I may have someone extra who doesn't really care about the movie or the book and we'll just have to ignore him.People okay with G+ gathering Friday, Nov. 1 @8:30PM Central?

If you're going to AMC and are a "Stubs" member, there are no additional costs when you buy through Fandango. It costs, what, a dollar extra? Two?

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
Darian, Noah and I had a great time at a so-so movie (my opinion; your mileage may vary).
Darian and I did each have a Guinness to take the edge off before seeing it, though (Noah was busy signing movie contracts for his songs, or something silly, and so was late to the party). I, for one, did NOT want my engineer's brain running at top efficiency while I watched it for the first time. Unfortunately, as some of you may have read in the Movie Spoilers thread....the Guinness didn't help.

Re: PwebCon/Gatherings/Shindigs/Meet-Ups
Ok, so, I'll be in Chicago from Friday night -> Tuesday evening, July 11 - 15, if any Chicago-y individuals will be up for a visit! A lot of that will be occupied with Courtney, since it will be our only time together in-person for most of the summer, but she'll have work on Monday and Tuesday, and I can probably talk her into a group dinner (double date with Alea and Zero??? =) ).

I'm not sure what my work schedule will look like yet (much more variable than the last job) and I'll be in school, so who knows what homework will look like BUT I should be able to make time somewhere in there. As it gets closer, I'll let you know and really, zero will go if I go as long as it's after work hours, so while I'll still ask him, I'd count him in, too.
